An ongoing project for 2010... a creation a week?!
Do you ever wake up in the morning just feeling like you need to create? Just really needing to draw/paint/sew/make/bake/illustrate or write something? That is the vibe I'm floating on right now... now for some spare time...

Every year I have the best intentions to create some wonderful new year's resolutions and instead of making them and never carrying them through -I never get around to actually making the resolutions in the first place! So I'm a procrastinater and a failure before the 1st of Jan is over.
This year while at home with Zoe, I have had plenty of time to come up with some resolutions and goals for 2010 and I've decided to look at it more positively this year. None of this 'I must lose this much weight' or 'I will exercise more' or 'I will eat better' rubbish, we all know those don't stick. This year I have decided to give myself a project to enjoy - not a torture to endure.
After reading and being inspired by Toby Morris' article about his 'A Drawing a Day' project in Extra Curricular Magazine I've decided to give something similar a go, maybe weekly though. Mainly because I miss drawing, painting and illustrating and also because if I can stick it out until the end of the year, I'll have around 52 pieces of work to compile or exhibit!
Now I don't want to restrict myself too much with content and themes or be too strict on the weekly timing. I don't want it to be a burden each day and leave me hating the whole thing come Feb. If I don't have time, I don't have time. I want to document it here on my blog and I want it to have some Bobby Robin or bird elements. I also really want to incorporate my faith within the art and hopefully a bible verse or biblical theme faintly within each creation. I want it to be me, to be something I love. I want each piece to be for me and not shaped or created for others or for what I might think others may like. Most of all I want it to be fun and something I can look forward to doing each week.
So now that I have very vaguely described what the hell I think I am doing this year instead of losing weight, I will start posting creations around the first week of January 2010 all going well. Hopefully over the next couple of days it will become more clear to me how this project will grow and develop... now to come up with me first masterpiece...

I made a similar goal a few months back but have been slack. I definitely want to put more focus on nurturing my creative side this year though. Great idea to post about your weekly projects, might keep me inspired to get doing mine! Loving the robbin
Beautiful! In the latest NEXT mag there's a bit about Audrey Eagle who hand-painted (all of our - I think) NZ trees and flowers over a number of years. She now has heaps and has had them published and she's won awards... she's an older woman but hey it all happened by painting one beautiful picture at a time!
You go for it girl! Good on you!
Great idea, sweets. Might give it a shot myself! Big hugs!
Such a great idea, I look forward to seeing what you create!
And in answer to your question at the top of this post, yes, yes I know exactly what you mean, you have no idea how much reading that felt like you plucked it from my own brain!
Wish you every success in creating some original masterpieces, can't wait to see them! Guess the key is to be kind to yourself and not worry if your little person takes up more of your time than you anticipate and just roll with the creative juices as and when you can! :-)
thanks!
that's a cool idea- I have started writing a list of stuff I would like to learn how to make but is getting longer and longer the more I look at blogs! I liked that article too in the extracurricular mag about Toby Morris- cute little mag isn't it :)
