Handmade Holidays

I decided to make most of my gifts for family and friends this Christmas as the cost was sky rocketing out of control. I had heaps of fun doing it - but it's hard to show gifts on my blog prior to Christmas because then the cats out of the bag!

Speaking of bags, here are some pics of the handbag I made my sister. It is reversible but I think it looks better with the aqua fabric just as lining. I embroidered a swallow on the lining fabric as it is the same swallow that she has tattooed on her back, so it makes it extra special (I like to add a personal touch). The aqua fabric is second hand and the Indian Sari material I nabbed at a swishing party (it used to be a skirt). The handles came from a market sale on Ponsonby road, I cut them off a hideous crochet handbag and gave them a new life. Finally I added some turquoise coloured buttons just to give it an extra bit of love and pull the colours together :-). Quite proud it worked out actually.

Beautiful! I love the 'personal touch' embroidery - makes it a really special gift!
